Which fuel for the X1/9....E5 or E10? was created by Gareth Lloyd
Hi all,
What's the consensus on what fuel should be put in our X1/9's?.....E5 or E10?
Thanks,
Gaz.

I’ve only ever put Esso or shell e5 in. It’s quite happy on that returning 45 mpg. Until I had it in 2006 it was only run on leaded petrol as the original owner had written to fiat uk ( not emailed ) and they would not confirm it was ok to run on unleaded. At that point it was only doing 200miles a year though and there was a 4* seller down the road.
I run the 2 cv on e5 too which gets 45mpg, and the modern TIPO does 10% better mpg on e5, although at the moment it’s greater than 10% more expensive so not worth it.

I maybe stand to be corrected, but the super unleaded with E5 (ethanol content of 5%) is more suitable against carburettor erosion of floats, jets, rubber hoses etc.... I think.. again I may be wrong, I do believe that standard unleaded with an increase of ethanol content these recent years is a drive to a more environmental push of for cleaner tailpipe emissions with cat equiped cars.. So I am sticking with super at E5, just not to be aggressive to the carb style fuelling system, my wallet hates that... but hey ho

I only use E5.
E10 gunges up the fuel system if not regularly used over winter.
There are other reasons which I cant remember.
I seem to think there was a thread in this a few years ago.

Agree with above comments.
I researched this 4 - 5years ago and the Shell V-Power apparently contains no ethanol, ok it is very expensive but so is the council tax bill!
I only use the Shell V Power and I add a measure of the Wynns Sans Plomb additive too.
