We could call that 'patina' and charge a premium for it ! Emotional isn't it. I had the carb. cleaned, did a lap of Richmond Park then broke down in Priory Lane. Some might say the right place for a break down. In all seriousness you need to have a very sensible think about that beauty, as do we all.

Hi Christian, I feel your pain, just looking at those few picture remind me of what I went through. Believe me when I say mine was just as bad if not worse. Let me give you a small example...this picture shows the ROT on and in the N/S A pillar and scuttle, I had to remove the lot and reconstruct this area completely.

If you really want it you just need to forget the journey ahead and tackle one area at a time, at first it did get me down a bit but as I progressed I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

If you want to see some before and after pictures let me know I would be more than happy I look at them regularly it makes me feel right proud.

Dave

People ask me why I took a 100% sound, near perfect X19 and have transformed it into a race car instead of using a cheap shell. It's pictures like this show why - I'm not sure I would have sufficient confidence in a repaired shell to race it. Total admiration to all you folks that go through such pain to rescue these cars.

Hi Christian,

The nearside door pillar was full of rot too....I had to chop the bottom section out and re-build the inners before I could close it up.

Christian,
This picture shows the finished product it took about a week to get right, I used a mixture of metal thickness between 0.9 and 1.2mm in order to retain the structures strength.

I have to upload one pic at a time as they are of high resolution sorry about that.

well, i failed pretty quickly. bassically all storage taht i had been triple assured was mine, the workshop space the lot has now fallen through. and having assessed tuesday i have concluded that by the time i get the means (financial/skills/space0 to start she will have rotted to far. the most bitterly disapointed person. however, not out of x1/9 ownership though....... a rolling car has arrived, (named Harriet) which has some rust but not too much at all, has an engine issue, has a comprehensive set of work done but needs plenty more, but is in a much better state. a decent state to start. and will need to be modified to fit me a tad, and i like the silver bumpers more but i like thiscar a lot. very a lot.

Well. Let's just say I regret selling it to whom I did and leave it there.. I took the steering wheel (groovy dished older one) and a few ok bits and bobs For my new car, was told a convincing story about what would happen to her but I now know she was instantly stripped for bits :-( sod. I only let her go as I had absolutely no chance of ever getting her done, wanted someine to have a go so in a wee mood about it now. Oh well? Hopefully she will help keep others going! her replacement included!

Hmm, interesting, as I'm after a good drivers seat. Don't suppose you have a contact number for the buyer?

Sorry to gloat over the corpse, as it were, but sometimes we can't save them all. And if we did, we wouldn't have such exclusive cars, I suppose.

Replied by Andy Rowley on topic madness up for sale :-(
For what it's worth Chris, I think you've made the right decision in concentrating on your new car, which is much more achievable.

If someone buys a car it is their prerogative to do what they like with it. It is a shame when they are stripped just to make cash.
Far too many good cars have had this happen to them over the last few years. Sadly though they are still worth more as spares than fully built.

Good luck with your new car!
