Fuel hoses was created by Peter Amphlett
I am finally getting around to repacing the orginal fuel hoses on my 1985 VS. The two hoses coming out of the bulkhead above the fuel tank, (supply to the pump and a tank breather?) have strange securing clips with no obvious way of releasing them. The other ends have straightforward jubilee style clips. I don't want to risk damaging the two stub pipes that the hoses are attached to, so how do I free off these clips? Any help would be aprreciated.

Without seeing the clips it is difficult but a cutting disc on a Dremel could cut them off without damaging the pipes, if you are careful. Slitting the pipes longitudinally where you can with a sharp knife may work too.

The clips can be snipped off carefully down the side with a pair of wire cutters. They are similar to oetiker clips and look like a bow tie. Snip one of the side "wings" off and you should be able to peel them off. When refitting the new hoses you can use jubilee clips.
I'll try and see if I have a picture of the original clips.

Don't forget, the feed hose and return hose are different diameters. Also, make sure you get the correct spec of rubber. Modern fuels attack the older rubber used for hoses and hence can be dangerous.

If you do a search for posts on fuel hoses on this forum it should tell you more.

Thanks Andy, I will try my best. It is the obvious thing to do but I thought I would ask the question in case I was missing something!
I realise that they are different size pipes, the fuel feed being 10mm internal diameter and the breather 8mm? I am using pipe supplied by a local car component shop, which is advertised as multifuel safe, so should be ok.
Cheers,
Pete

The hoses are actually 8mm i/d inlet and 6mm i/d return.

If the clips on your car are the normal Fiat ones you can buy a special tool to unclip them or use a screwdriver to lever them apart and pincers to clip them back up.

Good job I haven't bought any yet! I'll not bother trying to save the clips but will replace them with jubillee clips.
Thanks for your input Pete, I was going to get the hoses off before I got the new ones, but had assumed they were 8 and 10 mm. I would have checked before buying, but it's nice to be corrected just in case I had gone ahead. I need to get back to the shop and see if they sell 6mm.
Thanks again.
